Transition Sarasota Interview with The Food Bank of Manatee
Transition Sarasota makes a huge impact in our community by gleaning excess or unwanted produce from farms, backyard trees, and farmers markets to donate to food banks and pantries to help those in need. With rising food costs, it is very difficult for many to afford fresh, healthy produce. Because of you, we are able to help many in our community that might not otherwise get the opportunity to eat nutritious food. We help families that have to buy things that are inexpensive, but perhaps unhealthy, just to put food on the table. We provide nutritious food to seniors who are on a low fixed income and do not have the resources to afford farm-fresh produce.
This year, we made an extra big impact. The Food Bank of Manatee, along with some food pantries, provided recipes along with the fresh produce. At one food pantry, people were so excited about the fresh produce that they were getting that they started a recipe exchange at the food pantry and a board was posted so that people could share. This is amazing, at it creates an awareness of healthy food, better nutrition, and promotes a sense of community.
We hear so many stories of how our fresh produce donations change lives. Please listen to our interview with Cindy Sloan, General manager of The Food Bank of Manatee , as she speaks about the impact you make. Listen to Interview Here
