Looking back two years ago
We look back in gratitude to the 2020 Giving Challenge when our generous supporters donated $27,260 to Transition Sarasota. Those donations made it possible for our Suncoast Gleaning Project to rescue 114,931 pounds of produce since April 2020. They enabled us to move forward with Suncoast Fruit Rescue, a program where residents register their fruit trees for us to glean. We have since rescued 1,000 pounds of backyard fruit and donated it to local food pantries.
We were also able to complete and launch (drumroll, please!) our new online Eat Local Guide, which is a resource for farm stands, farmers markets, farms offering CSA boxes, grow-your-own supplies, and restaurants serving locally sourced food.
All of this was possible because of our generous supporters. It is so important to provide access to healthy food to everyone in our community. Every week we hear stories about recipients in tears of gratitude for the healthy food that they would not otherwise have access to. This fresh food is helping people dealing with severe health issues while on a limited income and struggling families trying to manage the cost of literally everything. It may be helping your neighbor or a family member.
We need your support during the 2022 Giving Challenge, because without you we can’t do all this. Thank you.
